Migrant Latinas and Brothel Sex Work in Belize: Sexual Agency and Sexual Risk

Background: Sexual risk variability among brothel-based sex workers is influenced by fear of HIV transmission, culture-bound gender norms, and economic need. Research proves that Latina sex workers’ preferences override fears and social benefits outweigh health benefits because the effects are poorly characterized.
